While researching for my book, “This Time I Will Praise the Lord,” I came across a deeply encouraging article by Debbie McDaniel on the Crosswalk website titled, “What the Power of Praise Can Do – 8 Reminders from His Word. Her insights were passionately anchored in Scripture and offered a refreshing and convicting perspective on the power of praise in the life of a God following disciple.

Praise is far more than a song or a moment in a church service - it is a spiritual discipline and weapon, it’s a mindset, and a lifeline to the heart of God. McDaniel highlighted eight powerful biblical truths about praise that can shape how we engage with God and walk through life’s challenges.

  1. Praise gets our focus off ourselves and back on God (Psalm 35:28; 150:2). In a world that constantly tempts us to fixate on our problems, praise redirects our gaze to the One who is above all things. It shifts our perspective from self to Savior.

  2. Praise brings us to a place of humility (Psalm 35:28; 95:2-3). When we praise, we acknowledge God’s greatness and our dependence on Him. True praise is a humbling act—it dethrones self and enthrones God to His rightful position upon our choice of surrender.

  3. Praise makes the enemy flee (2 Chronicles 20:22). Spiritual battles are often won not with striving, but with praise. When the people of Judah praised, God sent confusion into the enemy’s camp. Praise broke down both the physical force and the spiritual stronghold.

  4. Praise leaves no room for complaining and negativity (Psalm 103:2-4; Hebrews 13:15). A heart full of praise cannot coexist with bitterness. It realigns our thoughts with truth and replaces grumbling with gratitude.

  5. Praise makes room for God’s blessing over our lives (Ephesians 1:3). When we bless God, we step into the flow of His blessings. Praise prepares our hearts to receive and recognize His goodness.

  6. Praise invites His presence (Psalm 22:3; 1 Peter 2:9). God inhabits the praises of His people. When we praise, we create space for His manifest presence. It becomes an divine encounter, not just a token expression.

  7. Praise renews and refreshes our spirit (Psalm 16:11). In His presence is fullness of joy. Praise revives what the world’s weariness creates. It strengthens our inner being and revives hope.

  8. Praise paves the way for God’s power and miracles (Acts 16:25-26). Paul and Silas praised in prison, and the ground shook with divine power. Their praise invited breakthrough - not only for themselves physically but for the multi-dimensional release of all the inmates imprisoned with them.

The message is clear: praise is not an optional extra in the Christian life, but an essential discipline for His glory and our benefit. We always have a choice. We can live under the crushing weight of fear, doubt, and pressure, or we can, with intentional discipline together with the help of the Holy Spirit, lift our eyes to the Creator of heaven and earth and celebrate Him as Lord over our lives and Master over our problems.

God desires our whole hearts. He longs for us to return to Him - not out of guilt, but in love. His presence is always available. His blessings are abundant. His Spirit is drawing us closer, forever gently yet passionately calling us back to the power of praise.

So let’s respond. Let’s walk this humbling invitation toward godly praise together, starting now. It’s not too late. Praise can begin with a whisper, a song, a breath of gratitude. Let it grow. Let it lead. Let it transform your life.
